Toxic discharges can hamper the ecosystem by lowering species diversity and fertility. Chemical testing alone cannot sufficiently determine the impact on an ecosystem; therefore Whole Effluent Toxicity Tests (WET) must be utilized to measure the discharge’s toxicity level.
